WINTER GUARD INTEREST FORM

WINTER GUARD INTEREST FORM ⋆

 FAQs

  • Winter Guard is often called “the sport of the arts” because it brings together dance, drama, and athletic skill with the use of flags, rifles, and sabres. Performed indoors on a gym floor covered by a large tarp “stage,” each show is set to music and designed to tell a story or create an emotional experience through movement and design.

Unlike marching band color guard, which performs outdoors alongside the band, Winter Guard is its own indoor competitive activity that runs during the winter and spring. Members have the chance to grow their skills year-round while being part of a close, supportive team. At Keller Central, our Winter Guard competes in both NTCA and WGI events, giving students opportunities to showcase their creativity and excellence at the local, regional, and national level.

  • Winter Guard is open to all Keller Central High School students—no prior dance or color guard experience is required! We teach everything from the ground up, so beginners are welcome, and experienced performers have the chance to keep growing their skills.

  • The Winter Guard season runs from late November through early April. Students attend rehearsals during the week and on select weekends, leading up to performances at local NTCA competitions and national WGI events.

  • Winter Guard teaches more than just performance. Members build lifelong friendships, confidence, discipline, and teamwork, all while creating unforgettable memories with their peers. It’s a chance to express creativity, travel to competitions, and be part of a supportive and inspiring community.
