Welcome to Keller Central Color Guard ✨⚡
We’re so excited you’re here!

Please read through each section carefully, as this page contains important information for the season.

Color guard is a performing art that combines dance, movement, teamwork, and equipment performance with the marching band. At KCCG, students build confidence, friendships, performance skills, and unforgettable memories while being part of something bigger than themselves.

Whether you have years of experience or have never touched a flag before, there is a place for you here.

Throughout the year, members have the opportunity to participate in both the fall marching band season and the winter guard season.

During the fall, the color guard performs with the Keller Central Charger Band at football games, UIL and BOA competitions, and some community events. In the winter, KCCG competes as an indoor winter guard through NTCA and WGI, focusing on performance, technique, artistry, and competitive growth. Winter guard season includes weekend competitions, additional rehearsals, and a more performance-focused environment that allows students to continue developing their skills year-round. For many students, it becomes one of the most fun and rewarding parts of their time in the program.

All member and parent communication will happen through the Band App throughout the season. This is where you’ll find:

  • Rehearsal schedules

  • Announcements and updates

  • Performance itineraries

  • Weather updates

  • Reminders and important information

Important graphics, event dates, reminders, and updates will also be posted on our Instagram (@kellercentralcolorguard).

Both students and parents are expected to regularly check the Band App, Instagram, and the website to stay informed throughout the season. Staying up to date and informed is part of being a prepared member of the program.

Google Calendar & Scheduling

All rehearsals, performances, competitions, camps, and events will be posted on the Band Google Calendar. Students and parents are expected to regularly check the calendar and stay aware of upcoming events and schedule changes. The calendar can be found on the band website or through the ‘Calendar’ tab on our website.

Families are encouraged to communicate conflicts as early as possible. Many events are scheduled months in advance, and attendance plays a very important role in the success of the team as a whole.

Attendance Expectations

Being present, prepared, and on time is an important part of being a member of KCCG. Each student’s attendance impacts not only their own progress, but also the success of the entire team.

Members are expected to attend all rehearsals, performances, camps, competitions, and required events unless previously communicated and approved. Excessive absences, repeated tardiness, or missed performances may affect show participation, placement, or future opportunities within the program.

We understand that life happens. Emergencies, illness, and unavoidable conflicts may happen. Open and early communication is always appreciated and helps us best support students and families.

Member Health & Wellness

At KCCG, we care deeply about the physical and mental well-being of our students. Color guard is a physically demanding activity, and members are encouraged to take care of their bodies through proper hydration, nutrition, rest, and recovery.

Students should arrive prepared for rehearsals with water, appropriate clothing, required equipment, and any personal medical needs they may have. Members should also communicate injuries, illnesses, or health concerns to staff as soon as possible so we can help create a safe and successful environment for everyone.

We want KCCG to be a positive, supportive space where students can grow as performers, teammates, and individuals throughout the season.

Communication Chain

KCCG encourages students to communicate responsibly and respectfully within the program. Before contacting directors or staff with non-emergency questions, students should first check Band App, the calendar, Instagram, and the website for posted information.

If additional help is needed, students are encouraged to follow the communication chain below:

  1. Check posted information and announcements

  2. Ask a fellow member or squad leader

  3. Contact a captain or section leader

  4. Reach out to staff or directors if needed

This helps students build responsibility, leadership, and communication skills while also helping information move efficiently throughout the program.

Program Fees & Payments

Participation in Keller Central Color Guard includes program fees throughout the season. These fees help cover items such as costumes, member items (duffle bag, warm-ups, etc.), show design, silks, equipment, travel expenses, competition entry fees, instructional staff, and other operational costs associated with the program.

Payment schedules, due dates, and financial information will be communicated through Band App and posted throughout the season. Families are expected to make payments by the communicated deadlines whenever possible.

We never want financial circumstances to prevent a student from participating in the program they love. If financial concerns arise, families are strongly encouraged to communicate with staff privately and early so we can help explore available options, payment arrangements, and resources whenever possible.

Band Camp & Rehearsals

Band camp is one of the most important parts of the season and is where students learn all their fundamentals, choreography, performance responsibilities, and a large portion of the marching show material. Attendance at band camp and summer rehearsals is extremely important to both individual and team success.

Students should arrive each day prepared with:

  • A full water jug

  • Athletic clothing that they can comfortably move in

  • Athletic shoes

  • Sunscreen

  • Hair secured away from the face

  • Any required items and equipment

All KCCG members are expected to purchase and maintain the required rehearsal items needed throughout the season. These items help create consistency, professionalism, and preparedness across the team during rehearsals, performances, and competitions. Please click the link below to purchase.

Texas summer rehearsals can be physically demanding, and students are expected to take care of themselves by staying hydrated, eating properly, and getting enough rest throughout camp weeks.

Summer schedules, rehearsal times, and camp information can be found on the band calendar and through the “Calendar” tab on the KCCG website.

UIL Eligibility

Keller Central Color Guard follows all UIL eligibility rules and academic requirements established by Keller ISD and the State of Texas. Students are expected to maintain passing grades to remain eligible to participate in any performances and competitions.

Academic success is a priority, and students are encouraged to communicate early with staff if they are struggling academically or need additional support balancing school and extracurricular responsibilities.

Student Safety & Texas Heat Policy

Student safety is always a top priority at KCCG, especially during the Texas summer rehearsal season. Rehearsals and outdoor activities are monitored closely using the district’s wet bulb temperature guidelines to help ensure a safe environment for all students.

Based on heat conditions, rehearsals may be modified to include additional water breaks, shaded recovery periods, adjusted rehearsal blocks, indoor rotations, or shortened outdoor exposure times when necessary. Students are expected to stay hydrated, eat properly throughout the day, wear appropriate rehearsal clothing, and communicate any signs of illness, dizziness, overheating, or injury to staff immediately.

Our goal is to create a safe, healthy, and successful rehearsal environment while helping students perform at their best throughout the season.
